Wild orchids

Last year was an annus mirabilis for wild orchids.  We have always had the common spotted orchid and in 2020  a bee orchid appeared in the grass by the front drive.  The bee orchids have been spreading steadily ever since.

In 2024 two new orchid species arrived in the garden -the pyramidal orchid and the common twayblade.  These may have arrived naturally -they are Warwickshire species but it is more likely that they came from wild orchid seed that I have scattered around from time to time.  The success rate of growing orchids from scattered seed is close to zero, but sometimes you get lucky!

Swallow Nesting Cups

Swallows are gregarious, so putting up multiple cuips makes it more likely that they will use them -We live in hope!
