Grey Willows

Several species of small willows with furry catkins in spring are called pussy willow and the grey willow, or sallow (Salix cinerea) is one of them.  It is very similar to goat willow (Salix caprea) with which it hybridises.

All the pussy willows are excellent nectar plants for bees, butterflies & moths in the spring while their leaves and wood support a wide range of wildlife.

These willows are self-seeded and have formed a delightfully airy woodland pocket.   The daffodils and primroses have also appeared of their own accord.
